Why Mini-Library?
Finding Herself
in a Story.
Mini-Library began with the resources we searched for during my younger sister’s journey with selective mutism.
We wanted a Turkish children’s book that could help her feel understood and less alone. When we struggled to find one, we discovered stories in English. After summer school in the United States, I brought those books home for her.
As she read, she recognized herself in the characters. Those stories helped her see that she was not alone.
“I’m like this too.”A moment of recognition for my sister.
That experience became the starting point for this collection: a place where families, teachers, and professionals can explore resources—and children can find something of themselves in a story.

A story inspired by my sister
Her Story,
Shared with Others.
Dilşah Ünlü is my Turkish teacher and a children’s author who has followed my sister’s journey closely. For four years, my sister did not speak to her.
Now, Mrs. Ünlü has written a story inspired by my sister’s experience: Sessiz Maestro. It will appear in her forthcoming book, which will soon be available in bookshops.
We began by looking for stories that could help my sister feel understood. Now, her own experience has inspired a story for other children to discover.
A small reading.A story to discover together.
An idea from my sister
Children Reading
for Children.
This idea began with my younger sister, whose own experience of selective mutism inspired her to think about supporting other children through stories.
Her idea was simple: children could read the first paragraph or two of a book and share a recording for another child to listen to.
Children who would like to take part can choose a book and record a short opening passage with support from a parent or caregiver. There is no need for a perfect reading, and no pressure to participate. Each child decides what feels comfortable.
